Care coordination for family caregivers
Empower Care App helps unpaid family caregivers track heart failure, COPD, recurrent UTI, and other complex conditions — for one loved one or several at once, like a child with specialized needs and an aging parent. Each person's readings are measured against their own normal, not a generic average, so real warning signs don't get lost in false alarms.

hospital readmissions are potentially preventable — heart failure, COPD, and UTI among the leading causes. (AHRQ HCUP, 2024)
How it works
Ask a question, get an answer drawn only from your person's own records — with the source cited every time. If data's missing or stale, it says so instead of guessing.
No generic thresholds. Warning signs for CHF, COPD, and recurrent UTI are measured against what's normal for them — fewer false alarms, less noise to tune out.
Readings live on the in-home device. Only derived trends leave it. The app never diagnoses — your family always makes the call.
Tested daily by a legally blind user — not checked once against a compliance list. Caregiving doesn't pause for a disability, and neither should this.

We're pursuing federal grant funding to rigorously validate our approach, and we're looking for two kinds of partners to help us get there.
We're preparing an NIH/NIA SBIR application and want to hear from research institutions working in aging, caregiving, or remote patient monitoring. If a collaboration could strengthen a shared grant proposal, let's talk.
We're forming a panel of geriatrics, cardiology, and pulmonology clinicians to review and validate the health rules behind our alerts. Paid consulting, with potential for co-authored publication.
Be named as a contributing partner on a federally-funded NIH/NIA research initiative.
Modified Delphi consensus studies are routinely published — real potential for co-authorship.
A structured, time-boxed commitment — a few hours across a few rounds, not an open-ended ask.
About Empower Living
Empower Living LLC is a Virginia-based, woman-owned small business founded by Sheina Kirby. Empower Care App grew out of her own family's experience navigating heart failure, COPD, and recurrent UTI care with no professional care coordination available to lean on.
